The first time you step into Adore, you’re surrounded bythings unique – Buddha carvings that stand out in any well designed hall, ornate chandeliers, interesting low tables, with the base made out of pieces ofdriftwood and so many other unique pieces of art that double up as pieces offurniture.

At Adore, Mayuresh Dhume, through his sojourns into Asia, has brought back interesting ideas, concepts and art to decorate your home, turning this lifestyle store into one that offers fully customized solutionsfor your home.

What stands out the most, is the woven furniture that standsapart from the rest of its ilk available here in Goa. Mayuresh explains how hecame about this familiar yet unique style of furniture. “Four years ago, Istarted to look into natural fibres and what could be done with them. Backthen, I had the option to import them directly and set up a store here, butthere was something missing. Most people today prefer to have a customizedelement to their furniture or anything else they pick up by way of home décor.”

Mayuresh started to research weaves done with natural fibresand began to understand the process that went into making it stronger and moredurable. He then began to work with local artisans to understand the process, with an aim to train them to work with different fibres.

Today, with just a handful of artisans at a workshop inPilerne, Mayuresh and his team manage to bring out wonderfully woven furniturewith textured colours.

Apart from that, there are artifacts with volcanic ash. “Goahas a lot of art and artifacts that people use to brighten up their houses, butit’s getting saturated. I wanted to add a new dimension to this slowlyburgeoning industry.”

And he’s kept his products reasonable. Chandeliers startfrom Rs 8000 and go up to Rs 3.5 lakh, while many of the other pieces start inRs 8000-20,000 range. His bespoke sofa sets start from Rs 84,000.

While Mayuresh runs another successful company that makesmemory foam for furniture and has worked on manufacturing seat assemblies forTata Motors in the past, Adore is what he wants to develop into a full-fledgedbrand.

He’s gearing up for the tourist season, his first withAdore. But, things are already looking up, since up until now, around 50% ofhis clients have been Indian and foreign tourists who aim to ship some of hisproducts back to where they’re from, as well as tell their friends about it. “Ithink this season will be a good test,” he says with a smile.
