10-day Lokotsav festival kick-starts today in city

Folk troupes from Lanka, Russia to participate

The much awaited Lokotsav, a national level 10-day colourful festival organised by the Directorate of Art and Culture in collaboration with West Zone Cultural Centre, Udaipur along with Kala Academy, Goa and SAG, kick starts tomorrow (January 8) at Panaji. 
This year’s festival has brought together a symphony of folk art, folk dance and folk music. The attraction this year is not only the participation of different states of India but also the participation of folk troupes from Sri Lanka and from Russia.  
The folk performances will be held at four different venues – Darya Sangam, Dinanath Mangeshkar Auditorium, Open Air Auditorium and Black Box of Kala Academy. There will be special programmes like Bastar Band Qawwali, Tamasha, Yakshagan, Lokgeet, Natua, Baul etc. Also various workshops on crafts making and folk music, traditional cooking will be conducted during the festival.  
An exhibition cum sale of handicrafts from various states of India including Goa, will be held on all 10 days (8-17 January) from 10 am to 9.30 pm at Kala Academy where mojdi, bandhani, leather work, patch work, bead work, furniture, glass work, Khadi products, jute work, miniature paintings, fabrics, handlooms, wooden toys, jewellery as well as Goan handicrafts.  
There will be various workshops for the public participation at Kala Academy on January 9-17 between 2.30-5.30 pm.
