PANAJI: There is no political interference in investigation of Remo Fernandes, Goa police told the Children’s Court on Monday. Remo is being probed by the police after complaints of alleged verbal abuse of a minor girl.

The petitioner and also the complainant in the case, Aires Rodrigues had alleged that there was political pressure on the police to shield pop star Remo Fernandes.

The Agacaim police told the court that the petitioner’s allegations were baseless and that he had not supported the allegations with any material on record and hence they appeared to be imagination of the petitioner.

The police also stated that they had contacted the sister of the victim and requested her to furnish mobile number of the priest who gave them the mobile numbers of Remo Fernandes and his son Jonah.

The process to issue look-out notice to the immigration department at all airports and seaports had been initiated, the police told the court.

During the course of investigation, the police said, it had obtained information from Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim as regards detailed list of staff and patients and also the CCTV footage and that it had also recorded the statements of patients. The police also told the court that the statement of the victim’s sister had been recorded, which has proved that she was an eye witness to the crime.

The police also stated that they had received a letter from Goa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights asking them to furnish details of the case by December 31 and arrangements had been made to reply to the same.

North Goa SP and SDPO Panaji are likely to file their say in the case on Tuesday. The case was later adjourned for Tuesday.
