PANAJI: Goa Police on Wednesday issued a look-out notice against renowned pop singer and Padmashree awardee Remo Fernandes in the case wherein he was previously booked for allegedly abusing a minor girl who was grievously injured after his car being driven by his son, Jonah, struck her.

Interestingly, the look-out notice is being issued by the police despite the fact that the second summons is yet to reach Remo and against the backdrop of the accused informing the police that he will be available for questioning on January 8.

Agacaim Police Station confirmed that the look-out notice has been circulated among all police stations in Goa as Remo did not remain present before the investigating officer on Wednesday as ordered.

“Accused person is wanted in Agacaim Police Station. If any information on whereabouts regarding the accused person, please intimate Agacaim Police Station or Police Control Room,” reads the notice.

An FIR was registered against Remo Fernandes on December 18 under Section 8 read with 2(m) of the Goa Children’s Act for allegedly abusing a minor after his car being driven by his son Jonah struck her injuring her left ankle and right temple.

Agacaim Police Station PI Jivba Dalvi informed that Jonah Fernandes was questioned by the police on Wednesday as a witness in the case.

“While his statement was recorded, he has sought time to recollect a few finer details of the case. Accordingly, Agacaim Police Station has called him again on December 26 at 4 pm,” PI Dalvi stated.

Agacaim police on Tuesday had issued fresh summons to Remo, after he failed to remain present on Monday as summoned.

As the investigation revealed that the 62 year-old singer bears a Portuguese passport and has surrendered his Indian citizenship, Agacaim police had forwarded the summons to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) along with a letter addressed to the secretary (consular) of Indian Embassy in Portugal requesting the authorities to take steps to serve the summons to Remo, who is presently in Lisbon.

Sources disclosed that this second summons continues to be with the police authorities in Police Headquarters and has not been forwarded to the Indian Embassy in Lisbon as Agacaim police did not follow the mandatory procedure for serving summons on a foreign national. It was hinted that the second summons, therefore, could be rendered invalid.

Incidentally, the procedure for serving summons on a foreign national involves the concerned Superintendent of Police, FRRO, Union Ministry of Home Affairs, Interpol and then Embassy.

Meanwhile, it has come to light that Remo’s advocates have informed the police that he will be available for questioning on January 8, 2016. But maintaining that no communication to this effect has been received by the Agacaim police from Remo or his advocates, the look-out notice was issued.
