Congress High Command’s plans to field its Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Luizinho Faleiro in Navelim for the 2017 assembly polls came out in the open on Wednesday when GPCC vice-president Motilal Desai stated that a green signal was given by the party leadership in Delhi recently.

The party vice-president while reacting to speculations over change in GPCC leadership, on Wednesday, said that the issue has been “sensationalised by elements who are weary of not getting the party tickets and also due to the bold stand taken by Faleiro.
Rumours are rife following Falerio’s move to give new faces an able option to Goans in the forthcoming assembly election and for also taking a strong view against the corrupt, he said in a statement to the media.
Desai stated that Faleiro had met Sonia recently and offered to resign as GPCC chief after “he was convinced that the local party organisation was in place”.”Sonia took into account the party-building work done by Faleiro and given the fact that elections are fast approaching, requested Faleiro to not only continue as president till the assembly election, but to also contest from Navelim assembly constituency,” he said.
