There’s a ray of hope for the 15 Anganwadi kids in Corjuem-Aldona, who have been studying in a dilapidated structure for a number of years with authorities paying little attention for the upkeep of the structure.

On Wednesday, local MLA and Goa Housing Board, Chairman, Glen Ticlo paid a visit to the Anganwadi and took stock of the situation.

Besides the broken tiles on the roof and some weak wooden rafters, the walls of the structure have also developed cracks.

The MLA has requested GSIDC, Chairman, Dr Pramod Sawant to take up repair work of the structure so that the kids are free from imminent threat.

“GSIDC, Chairman, Pramod Sawant has promised to start work on the structure within a month’s time,” Ticlo informed.

It may be recalled that The Goan had highlighted the pathetic condition of the neglected structure housing the Anganwadi a month back.

Fifteen kids attending the Anganwadi faced a threat to their life, as the structure housing Anganwadi-84 in Kushem-Corjuem was really in bad shape.

Child Development Project Officer, Bharati Pawaskar, in-charge of the Anganwadi, had said the kids were shifted in the next room that was somewhat safer.

She had also informed that PWD had prepared the estimate to repair the structure, but nothing was done after that.

Local Panch Charudatta Panjiker had then told The Goan that the panchayat had written to the Directorate of Women and Child Development to repair the school, but the department failed to pay heed to their requests.

“Since the panchayat does not have adequate funds to repair the structure, we had written to the department. The authorities will have to take some action before the next monsoon,” Panjikar had said.
