The Goa Cricket Association's (GCA) Managing Committee on Thursday decided to place a six-year ban on former treasurer Vilas Dessai and three others along with Sarvodaya Sporting Club for anti-GCA actions, pending a decision by the General Body which meets in six months time.

The GCA having taken cognizance of the allegations made by Vilas Dessai and three others along with Sarvodaya Club that a cricket match was held on January 2 at Sanguem grounds to mark the 'inaugural' of the ground, which sparked off a row with Sanguem MLA Subhash Phaldesai.

The GCA Managaing Committee following a meeting on Thursday, informed a media briefing that the Managing Committee has discussed the replies filed by Vilas Dessai, Putu Rama Dessai, Vinay Gaonkar, Suhas Naik and Sarvodaya Sporting Club.

"The replies filed by the four individuals have been found unsatisfactory," stated GCA secretary Vinod Phadke, adding: "Vilas Dessai has sought to rely on some affidavits. These affidavits are from persons who were employed by Vilas Dessai and the others are his supporters."

Phadke said the Managing Committee has also decided not to give any further time to Sarvodaya Sporting Club to file its reply. "The Managing Committee has after going through the complaints filed by several members of the managing committee as well as the replies filed unanimously decided that the actions of Vilas Dessai, Puttu Dessai, Vinay Gaonkar, Suhas Naik and Sarvodaya Sporting Club is against the interest of the association," elaborated Phadke.

He affirmed that the "conduct of these persons has been such that it has brought disrepute to the association". "The Managing Committee therefore unanimously resolved to recommend to the General Body to expel the said four individuals and Sarvodaya Sporting Club from the association for a period of six years," Phadke disclosed. He further stated that the Managing Committee has also unanimously resolved to suspend the said four individuals and Sarvodaya Sporting Club from all activities of the association pending decision by the General Body. "The said persons and the clubs are also debarred from entering or making use of any facilities of the association pending decision of the General Body. The matter shall be placed before the General Body within six months from today," informed Phadke.

Meanwhile, GCA President, Chetan Desai stated that the State association accepts the recommendations made by Justice Lodha Panel on BCCI reforms.

"The GCA welcomes the recommendations of Lodha panel and suggestions sought by BCCI at our end will be forwarded in due course," the GCA chief told media persons.

Though most recommendations of Lodha panel are reformatory in nature, the GCA said some measures recommended are already being followed by the GCA for some time now. He highlighted that 90 per cent of the GCA committee members are former cricketers. While the Lodha report recommends that former international players should be absorbed into the association fold, he said GCA will abide by it. Desai also said GCA is against proxy system of voting during elections and asserted that no proxy voting existed during the previous elections.

"As per Lodha recommendations there should be a lady member in the association which GCA already has. We have also abided by the one State one association policy and the states where this rule is not followed will bear the brunt of BCCI's wrath," Desai said.

On the forthcoming Corporate League, Phadke said right now it will be a ten-team affair comprising six Goan teams and four out-station corportate teams.

The T20 tournament will be held from March 12 to 20. Air India, ONGC, Reliance and Indian Oil Corporation have agreed to participate while from Goa, it will be Dempo, Salgaocar, Caculo, Geno, Chowgule and Sun Estate. The number may come down by two and eventually the Corporate League might see only eight teams in fray.

Pawar-led MCA to accept Lodha panel recommendations

MUMBAI: The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) led by Sharad Pawar on Wednesday stated that they would accept the recommendations made by Justice Lodha Panel on BCCI reforms on basis of transparency and ethics.

The MCA held its Managing Committee meeting on Wednesday and discussed the Justice RM Lodha Committee report that was submitted to the Supreme Court and the BCCI.

Sharad Pawar is 75 years old and if the recommendations were to be implemented in letter and spirit, the politician will have to leave his post since the suggestions by the committee does not allow any person above 70 years to hold an administrative post in BCCI or its affiliated units.

The MCA is expected to forward its views to the BCCI as advised by the Committee.

"There are certain clauses of administrative and cricketing operations for which the association shall forward its views to the BCCI as advised by them," MCA Joint Secretary PV Shetty said in a statement.
