issues notices to cops

The Children’s Court on Thursday issued notices to the Agassaim Police Inspector, the Panaji Sub-Divisional Police Officer as well as the North Goa Superintendent of Police, based on an application filed by lawyer activist Aires Rodrigues seeking that the probe into the case against Remo be monitored by the Court.

Rodrigues who filed a petition alleging that Remo abused the minor girl who was injured in the accident involving his car, has alleged that since Remo is an influential celebrity there was political pressure on the police to shield the accused.

“Issue notice to the respondents for say on December 28 at 10 am,” the order reads.

“You are therefore required to take note of the above order and to take necessary action, further you are required to be present in this court along with the case diary and other relevant documents, if any to show cause as to why the said application should not be granted,” the order further reads.

“In default of your appearance on the day mentioned, the matter will be heard and determined in your absence,” it reads.

Remo’s son Jonah was driving the car which ran over the leg of the 17-year-old girl who was on a walking pilgrimage from Sindhudurg to Old Goa as part of a devotional walking pilgrimage to St Francis Xavier on December 1.

Jonah is facing a case of rash and negligent driving being separately probed by the Mapusa police.
