Ayyappa Seva Sangham, Margao is celebrating its annual Makarasankranti Pooja and Annadanam on January 15, at Shree Ayyappa temple, Vagulem, Mugalli, near Gogol Housing Board, Margao.

The Makarsankranti festival culminates two-month-long festivities at the temple commemorating the Mandala season at Sabarimala. Ayyappa Seva Sangham, Margao, was established in 1985 to help devotees of Lord Ayyappa in and around Margao to conduct poojas and bhajans and to help pilgrims visiting Sabarimala during Mandalam/Makaravilakku season. The Sangham was registered under the Society’s Act 1860 as a charitable organization.

During its formative years, the Ayyappa Seva Sangham conducted poojas and bhajans at the houses of devotees and later started celebrating the Makaravilakku at the Ganapathi Murugan temple at Rawanfond, near MES colony.

A temple based on Vaastu Shastra and Kerala temple architecture was constructed with Shree Dharmasasta as main deity and Ganapathi and Shanta durga as Upadevathas.

This year the festivities will start from 5 am with Ashtadravya Ganapathy Homam, Ashtabhishekam, Harinamakeerthanam, Nivedya pooja, Bhagavatha Parayanam, etc. The most auspicious Makarasankranti pooja will be performed at 6.45 pm followed by Bhajana and Annadanam.

A traditional Kerala sadya will be offered to all devotees as mahaprasad from 8 pm.
