PANAJI: The transport department has filed charge sheets against 26 assistant motor vehicle inspectors (AMVI) who are alleged to have submitted fake certificates during the recruitment process.

The chargesheet was filed by the Director of Transport Sunil Masurkar on Tuesday.

The the AMVIs, who have been chargesheeted include Abhay Savaikar, Anand Upadhyay, Dattaprasad Ganesh Naik, Kalpesh Phaldessai, Prabhakar Khedekar, Rajiv Tengse, Saulo alias Bhushan Gaonkar, Vaman Umbrascar, Vikram Tari, Akhil Pokle, Anoop Kundaikar, Guarish Phadte, Mandar Adpaikar, Pravin Hari Wadkar, Sandesh Naik, Sergio Rodrigues, Vaman Sashikant Prabhu, Yogesh Bhandari, Alister Fernandes, Charles Faria, Jitendra Gaunkar, Mithun Ramnathkar, Pritesh Yeshwant Naik, Sankalp Naik Navti, Shivananda Pednekar and Vedprakash Shenvi.

All the chargesheeted officers continue to be in service even as the case against them proceeds.

Earlier a report filed by the Anti Corruption Branch had found that all of them had submitted fake experience certificates to suggest that they had experience working in an automotive workshop.

Of the original 29 against whom cases were filed, two have already been dismissed from service.

The government had directed that criminal complaints be filed against the recruits for producing forged experience certificates from garages and issued show-cause notices to officers for failing to follow proper procedure in the recruitment of the posts.

The recruitments were done towards the fag end of the tenure of the previous government, but the same Transport Minister from the previous government continues in this government.

Sudip Tamhankar, General Secretary, All Goa Bus Owners' Association and an RTI activist, in May 2011 stating that the department had done the recruitment in 2011 in contravention of a Supreme Court verdict on the government recruitments by recruiting 29 persons while advertising only 14 posts of Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspectors in December 2010.

Tamhankar had alleged that there were several irregularities viz. that as many as eight of the recruits had no heavy vehicle driving licenses and the same were applied by them only after they applied for the posts, that many of them had produced fake garage experience certificates, etc. Many of the aspects have been upheld by the ACB inquiry.

The recruits will now have to reply to the charges they face and after which will face action or be acquitted.
