Congress leader from Cuncolim Adv John Monteiro on Thursday sought intervention of Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar to revoke all the clearances given to the fish meal plant at the Cuncolim industrial estate.

While extending his support to Cuncolkarancho Ekvott in their agitation against the fish meal plant, Monteiro warned of an agitation if the government fails to act against the plant, even as he threatened to approach the High Court via a public interest litigation. He has demanded to know how the polluted fish meal plant has been allowed to operate inspite of the fact that the Goa State Pollution Control Board on previous occasions has been pulled up for violating pollution norms. “Local MLA Rajan Naik should answer to the people of Cuncolim over his silence and inaction in getting the fish meal plant shut down despite reports from the GSPCB," he said.

Monteiro alleged that the fish meal plant has been releasing waste water in an open area through tankers, while locals had to be content with the unbearable stink.
