Maina-Curtorim police arrested a resident of Tilamol, Quepem, while two others made good their escape after the trio was involved in a slaughter of an animal at Guirim-Nuvem, late Wednesday night.
The police have also seized a Maruti Omni van, which was used to transport the meat, besides a motorcycle of the accused persons.
Acting on a tip off that some persons were in the process of slaughtering an animal illegally, the Maina-Curtorim police team led by PSI Akshay Parsekar descended at the spot and managed to arrest one B Pathan, a resident of Tilamol, while the remaining two managed to escape under the cover of darkness.
The trio has been booked under the provisions of the IPC, besides provisions under the Animal Cow Slaughter Act.
The police said that the meat will be handed over to the panchayat for disposal. Further investigations are on.
