If Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar announced the extension of his political career on Sunday, former Congress minister Subhash Shirodkar also decided to pad up for his second political innings on the same day.

Shirodkar, who lost to Industries Minister Mahadev Naik twice in the last two assembly polls, has again become active in politics and addressed his workers late Sunday evening, after a gap of four years.

He appealed to the voters to help bring prosperity to the State by bringing the Congress back to power.

Shirodkar was addressing a mega meeting of his workers at his residence at Shiroda. Congress leaders Girish Chodankar, Sankalp Amonkar, Sandeep Valmiki, Bela Naik, Akber Mulla, Jyoti Gaonkar, Premanand Shetkar, Shanker Kiraparker, Sumati Naik, former Borim sarpanch Manurai Naik, Thanu Naik, Madhu Khandeparkar, Ashok Naik, Awadhut Naik, Vasant Velip, Subhash Parpati, Narayan Kamat and others were present at the meeting.

Shirodkar said people of Shiroda are grappled with many problems and are facing vindictive politics. “Hence, there is a need to bring change in Shiroda by teaching a lesson to such politicians,” Shirodkar said.

The senior Congressman Shirodkar cited several incidents how the constituents were being harassed and transferred to a long distance, only for the politics of revenge.

About 1000-odd Congress workers were present for the meeting and they shouted slogans against the BJP government.

Shirodkar appealed to the Congress workers to build booth-level committees and make them strong enough to spread awareness of failures by the government. Shirodkar announced to launch a helpline to help the Shiroda citizens.

Speaking on the occasion, Girish Chodankar lambasted the BJP government and said the government has failed to bring ‘acche din’ (good days). “We don’t want 'acche din' of inflation, corruption and misguiding. Our ‘old days’ were good. Let us bring those days back,” Chodankar urged.

Praising Shirodkar's work, he said former minister is the loyal Congress leader and has done so many things for Shiroda.
