Number of casinos dropping in Goa

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday said that the number of casinos has come down after the BJP-led government has come into power in Goa and increased the annual renewal and license fees.

“[The] number of casinos is dropping from double digits to singledigits” the chief minister said at press conference in Porvorim.”

Parrikar mentioned that at least three onshore casinos havenot paid their annual fees and one offshore casino has not renewed its license.

“This indicates they are exiting from the business” the chiefminister said. 

The Intercontinental and The Grand Resort Goa have notrenewed their licences after they expired this year.

An offshore casino owned by Golden Globe Hotels Privatelimited, a subsidiary of MDLR group, has also not paid its annual fee.

The chief minister said that the state government hasallowed the quarterly payment of the fees for casinos provided they pay 12 percentinterest on the delay payment.
