Back home at Abade de Faria lane in Goa's commercial capital, the family of Portugal’s new Prime Minister is confident of Antonio Costa steering Portugal out of the economic troubles plaguing the country.

“I am sure my cousin will deliver what he has promised to the people of Portugal. I have no doubt that he would deliver because he has been very dedicated in doing what he does,” Antonio’s cousin Anna Kaarina J Costa told the media on Wednesday at Costa’s ancestral home in Margao.

Feeling elated and joyous after the news that her cousin had risen to become Portuguese Prime Minster, Anna said “I received the great news from a friend of mine at around 7.30 pm on Tuesday. Half an hour later, we were all sure of the news after we received a few messages on Antonio’s election as Prime Minister.”

Anna has already messaged him the best wishes and plans to call him after he settles down in office. “My cousin is a busy man. Right now, he has absolutely no time to receive the calls. But, I have messaged him my best wishes. Once all that is over, I will make a call,” she said.

Antonio had last visited Goa, may be around two decades ago, when a Portuguese Parliamentary delegation had come down to the state. But, Anna said she would suggest his cousin to come down to Goa and visit his home. Conveying her best wishes, Anna expressed confidence that Antonio will manage to do good for Portugal. “We all hope that he visits Goa once he settles down and sorts out his problems back home,” she said, while saying that she and her family looks forward to the new Portuguese Prime Minister’s visit to Goa.
