SANGUEM SCHOOL MOLESTATION CASE

PANAJI

Goa State Women's Commission (GSWC) disclosed its intentions to summon the headmaster and the teachers of the Sanguem school on December 29 for questioning in the case of outraging the modesty of a minor girl by a male school teacher.

A delegation of concerned citizens including Pundalik Raikar, Sangita Naik, Avelino De Sa, Pravin Sabnis, Valmiki Naik and others met Women's Commissioner Vidhya Shet Tanavade to discuss the Sanguem molestation case.

After a 45 minute-long discussion, it was decided that the GSWC will summon the headmaster and the teachers, who are supporting the accused teacher, who was suspended on December 17 pending enquiry.

Tanavade said, “We will summon the headmaster of the respective school on December 29, followed by the other teachers. The Commission will also write to the school management, Education department and the police headquarters asking for swift action with regards to the case.

GSWC will seek action from the police headquarters on the lapses on the part of Sanguem police while registering the complaint.

“The police station not only refused to cooperate with us but also created undue hurdles for the father of the victim while registration of the complaint. There were procedural flaws in recording the statements too,” Tanavade said.

“When we visited the victim it was also learnt that the police refused to register the case because there were no witnesses available. Later, when the parents managed to get the witnesses then the FIR was registered,” stated Tanavade.

She also pointed out that despite requesting for police protection for the minor girl, none has been extended to her till date.
