The Deputy Collector of Salcete, Ajit Panchwadkar, along with forest officials, on Friday, inspected hill cutting activity at Chandreshwar Parvat at Gudi-Paroda in Quepem.

On Friday morning, the deputy collector along with his team visited the site, where rampant felling of big trees on the slopes of Chandreshwar hill has taken place, sources told The Goan.

After inspecting the site, Panchwadkar said illegalities like hill cutting, felling of trees have taken place to some extent.

“I will submit the inspection report to the South Goa Collector and further necessary action against the person, who violated the law, will be initiated,” said Panchwadkar.

Meanwhile, the forest officials also inspected the site and assessment was done and they will report to the Conservator of Forests.

Krishna Gauns Dessai, secretary of Shree Chandreshwar-Bhootnath Saunsthan, said the Saunsthan will approach the National Green Tribunal, if the issue is not resolved.
