After encountering power supply and sewage related issues, the old office of the Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) is expected to relocate to its new premises at Altinho-Mapusa on January 4, 2016.
According to reports, the MMC had spent the Rs 1.8 crore to renovate the heritage building. The renovation work progressed at snail's pace and was completed after 22 months. The building was hastily inaugurated in September, even though the building was not fully ready for occupation.
The relocation of the MMC was delayed due to the code of conduct for the municipal council elections and lack of electricity supply to the building.
The electricity department completed its work only in mid-November, but the relocation was hampered yet again due to digging of roads to lay sewage pipelines.
MMC sources told The Goan that the office records are being shifted to the new building and that, the MMC should handle all activities in the new premises on January 4.
