The National Green Tribunal (NGT), while giving its order on the appeal made by the Tiracol-Palye Gram Bhachao Samiti (TPGBS), has ordered to stop dredging at the mouth of Tiracol river and maintain status quo. The next hearing will be held on January 21.

The TPGBS member and former Tiracol sarpanch Francis Rodrigues had filed an appeal with the Pune bench of the Tribunal. In the last hearing, the Tribunal had asked the Goa Coastal Regulation Authority (GCRA) to give details of action taken against the dredging activity. GCRA had sought for time and Pernem Deputy Collector Narayan Gad in his report stated that dredging was going on at Tiracol river.

After hearing both the parties on Monday, the Tribunal ordered to maintain status quo.

TPGBS consultant Adv Prasad Sahapurkar has welcomed the decision of the Tribunal.

Speaking to The Goan, Samiti convenor Sachin Parab said a public meeting will be convened at Kiranpani on January 11, and the MLAs of all the political parties will be invited for the meet.

Reacting to the Tribunal's order, Francis Rodrigues said it was the victory of the people of Keri, Tiracol, Kiranpani and Palye.
