In a tragic incident, three persons were found hanging on a tree close to the Varca beach on Sunday, with police suspecting the trio to be members of a family from Bangalore.

A male aged 60-65 years, female aged 55-60 years and a youth around 26 years were found hanging dead on a tree, less than 100 meters from the Varca beach on Sunday noon. That the trio were found hanging together on the tree raised a host of questions with Colva police saying they are trying to establish their identity.

Margao Sub-Divisional Police Officer, DySP Dinraj Govekar who visited the incident spot told The Goan that the police recovered a ticket from the possession of the elderly person, which showed that they had come from Bangalore by bus. “The name of one Manju is found on the bus ticket. We have also recovered a cell phone from the deceased. We have made some calls and relatives of the deceased are expected to come down to Goa by Monday”, DySP Govekar said.

While the elderly person was found hanging on the tree with a lungi type material, the female and the youngster were tied together with a saree. “It appears that the three are members of one family. But, we are investigating as to how the trio landed at Varca beach after arriving in Goa a day ago”, he said.

Though no major injuries were found on their bodies, DySP Govekar said the trio sustained ant bites on their legs. “It appears that the trio died less than 24 hours ago since the bodies were not in a decomposed state. We have sent the bodies to the mortuary for preservation and post mortem examination”, he said.

Colva PI Braz Menezes who is conducting preliminary investigations disclosed that Manju was a convict in a dowry harassment case in Bangalore and was recently released on parole. It was Manju who had booked tickets on December 24 and the trio had reached Goa on December 25, PI Menezes said.
