Navelim SC win Fr Basilio title

Navelim Sporting Club surged ahead when Clinton Niasso slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a neat finish. However their joy was short-lived as midway in the second half Julio Fernandes neutralized the lead for the Assolda team

Navelim Sporting Club beat St Anthony's Sports Club, Assolda 5-4 via tiebreaker to emerge champions of Fr Basilo Andrade memorial inter village football tournament organized by AA De Majorda in a thrilling final at Musson ground, Majorda on Sunday.

Both the teams displayed attacking brand of soccer and kept the crowds on their toes. They had equal number of scoring chances but their forwards failed to beat the goalkeeper. Crossing over, both the teams showed urgency and created many forays into the penalty box.

In the ensuing tie-breaker, Jason Pereira, Sandy Colaco, Alrich Coelho and Avlon Gomes were on target for Navelim Sporting while Succoro Fernandes, Kevin Vaz and Cruz Gomes scored for St Anthony’s Sports Club of Assolda.

The winners were richer by a cash purse of Rs 40,000 and a trophy while the runners-up had to settle for Rs 30,000. Nuvem MLA Micky Pacheco gave away the prizes in the presence of ZP member of Colva Constituency Nelly Rodrigues.
