An argument over plucking of coconuts from a plantation came to a violent end when an elderly family member was allegedly beaten to death at Narvem-Bicholim.

Bicholim police arrested three persons, including a man and his son, from Talewada in Narvem-Bicholim on charges of attacking his 82-year-old father, leading to his death.

The Bicholim JMFC has remanded the three accused to eight days in police custody.

According to Bicholim police, the incident occurred recently in the coconut plantation area belonging to the Raul family from Talewada Narvem Bicholim.

The accused are identified as Babi Raul (50), his son Pranay (20) and a coconut plucker Narayan Kapadi (28), all from Talewada-Narvem. The deceased is identified as Vaman Raul (82), who is the father of Babi and grandfather of Pranay.

According to Bicholim police, the accused, Babi and Pranay, were plucking coconuts from the plantation with the help of a coconut plucker, Narayan Kapadi.

After the coconuts were collected, Vaman went to the site and demanded some coconuts, but Babi and Pranay refused to part with their coconuts. A heated argument then broke out between the accused and the deceased.

Babi and Pranay along with Kapadi are alleged to have mercilessly assaulted Vaman, seriously wounding him in the attack.

He was later rushed to Asilo Hospital at Mapusa and later shifted to GMC hospital at Bambolim as his condition further deteriorated. Vaman, however, breathed his last at GMC hospital.

Vaman's wife, Sundari, later filed a police complaint at the Bicholim police station.

Acting on the complaint, police arrested Kapadi while Babi and Pranay were absconding from the police.

They later surrendered before Bicholim police and were arrested under Section 304 of IPC, before being remanded to eight days in police custody.

PSI Gaurish Parab is further investigating into matter under the guidance of Bicholim PI Ninad Deulkar.
