Striker Joshuah Vaz's 80th minute equaliser ensured Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim a 1-1 draw against Vasco Sports Club in the GFA Pro League match at Rosary grounds, Navelim on Thursday. There was no score at half time.
Cavelossim dominated possession in the first half and pushed their opponents on the backfoot.Cavelossim came close to scoring in the 25th minute when Joel Fernandes found ideally placed Marcus Fernandes inside the rival penatly box and with only Vasco goalkeeper Shilton Fernandes to beat,the last named shot wide much to the dismay of Cavelossim supporters.
Earlier, Cavelossim suffered a jolt when their defender Rahul Kumar suffered a harmstring injury and was replaced by Savio Fernandes. In the 20th minute, Cavelossim came to scoring once again but Mario Mascarenhas was the worst offennder as he wasted an open chance off pass from Marcus Fernandes.
Post resumption, Cavelossim continued to enjoy the better share of exchanges and fired a couple of good shots at the rival citadel but without success.
At the other end, Vasco who were struggling in the opening session nearly broke the deadlock soon after resumption when Nigerian skipper Emanuel sped past the rival defender after getting the ball from Agnelo D'Souza and the former's feeble shot went straight into the safe hands of Cavelossim goalkeeper Ram Sroop.
In the 70th minute, Vasco had a chance to score but substitute Melistan Pereira's try hit the upright and went out and three minutes later Vasco were unlucky as Emanuel's rasping shot kissed the cross bar after Mellistan Pereira laid him a perfect pass.

The equaliser boosted the morale of Cavelossim players as they piled on the pressure but Joshuah Vaz failed to beat the rival goalkeeper in a one to one situation of Levino Pereira pass. With this draw, Cavelossim collected 17 points from 15 matches while Vasco took their tally to 16 from same number of encounters.
Meanwhile, referee Jose Dias did not turn up and assistant referee 1 Milagres Noronha was made to officiate the match by match commisioner Milagres Thereza,who had to double up as fourth official.
Meanwhile, at Government School playground, Curtorim Gymkhana played truant against Guardian Angel Sports Club.
