The coalition government has given its nod for a slew of projects aimed at removing the traffic bottlenecks in the commercial capital, including three flyovers at the entrance to the city, a new ring road under the Bharatmala project and a road separator near the district hospital under construction.
PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar further said the government is going ahead with the controversial Western bypass after taking the precautionary measure, saying the bypass will help ease traffic movement.
After a meeting with PWD Minister, Sudin Dhavalikar and senior PWD officials in the Matanhy Saldanha Administrative Complex here on Thursday, TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai unveiled plans by the government to build a new Tolleaband-Agalli ring road under the Bharatmala project.
The three flyovers will come up at the entrance to the commercial capital at Rawanfond, Arlem and Nuvem, besides a grade separator near the South district hospital under construction. “We have reviewed the progress of the Comba ring road. All these projects will definitely ease traffic congestion in the commercial capital,” Sardesai said.
The PWD Minister said the flyover at Rawanfond junction has been sanctioned given the traffic bottlenecks at the circle, where one road goes to Quepem, one towards the Konkan railway station to the residence of former MLA Manu Fernandes, one towards the Navelim Church and one to the Power House. “All these roads have resulted in a traffic bottleneck at the Rawanfond traffic junction. The flyover is aimed at overcoming the problem,” Sudin said.
The TCP Minister said the meeting also reviewed the Comba ring road project, the Arlem-Ambaji road.
He pointed out that it has been decided to take up for beautification all the 18 open spaces gifted to the Margao Municipal Council and have been craving for attention. “These 18 open spaces
falling in Fatorda will all be taken up for beautification. By today, the PWD officials will identify the open spaces and take them up for beautification,” Sardesai added.
He further said the two new government buildings will be built at the Junta government accommodation complex and the PHC, Borda at the earliest.
“We have also discussed on the construction of a dedicated water supply tank for supply of water to the district hospital. Work will start on the project at the earliest,” he added.
