Telugu people in the State will get together on April 2 evening to celebrate Ugadi, the Telugu New Year’s Day, at an event conducted by the Andhra Sangham at The International Centre Goa. Ugadi means the beginning of a new era and is the first day of the Chaitra month, which is the first day of the Telugu New Year.  Mythologically, it is the birthday of the world created by Lord Brahma. People usher in the new year with family and friends, perform special pooja, start the day with Ugadi Pachchadi, wear new clothes, etc. Artists of the troupe from SKS events, led by Dr Arun Sai Kumar, a faculty of Andhra University Kuchipudi Dance Department, Visakhapatnam, will perform classical and folk dances, music, and comedy skits.  The Andhra Sangham will host a traditional dinner with Telugu cuisine at the end of the event.
