4 held for theft of catering vessels worth Rs 6 lakh in Mapusa

As many as 114 aluminium vessels worth Rs 6 lakh were stolen from the godown of a caterer at Karaswada-Mapusa.

Mapusa Police have arrested four persons, Deepak Ganesh Shikre (30), Kamlesh Shah (38), Chandan Siyam Sharma (32), all from Karaswada, and a scrapyard owner, Premchand Mahto (45) from Acoi-Mapusa.

According to police reports, the burglary took place sometime between June 1 and November 20, during the lockdown.

The owner of the Bicholim-based caterer had gone to his godown in Karaswada on Sunday, when he found the shutter bent and the items missing. He then filed a police complaint stating that 114 of the 124 large vessels were stolen.

During investigation, police found out that three persons used to sleep near the godown at night during the lockdown and detained them.

The accused reportedly admitted to having sold the stolen material to a scrapyard. Police later arrested a scrapyard owner, Pramchand Mahto.
