Ever since the Covid pandemic began, the Goa Sikh Youth (GSY) have been coming to the aid of the needy in Chimbel, particularly the migrants who lost their livelihood on account of the pandemic.

Initially, the organisation provided cooked food for the needy people of Chimbel and now, they are providing cooked food as well as rations. Speaking to The Goan, founding member of GSY Sandeep Gill said their organisation has been active since the start of the pandemic.

“We have provided cooked food as well as ration to the needy not only in Chimbel, but also in Panaji and Santa Cruz,” said Gill, adding that many people donate and the organization members also contribute.

“When people donate to us, we immediately distribute it to the needy people. We don’t keep anything back. In areas where we cannot reach, we use the help of NGOs or like-minded people for distribution of food and ration,” he added.
