The controversial issue of finalising Coastal Zone Management Plans which stirred up the greens, fishing communities and others over a year ago continues to keep the Goa government in a bind, forcing it to seek time from the National Green Tribunal. In an application, the Goa government has now sought another 11 months time from the National Green Tribunal (NGT) until March 10 next year to finalise the CZMPs. The Covid-19 pandemic and

the lockdown is the reason proffered by the government for not yet finalising the plans for the coastal and other riverine villages governed by Coastal zone Regulation laws.In its application filed earlier this week, the government has also given an assurance to the NGT that no permissions for development in coastal areas are being granted and  that no violations will occur until the CZMPs are finalised.
