Burglars broke into the post office in Valpoi and stole cash of Rs 1 lakh and some other items on Friday night. According to reports, the burglary was noticed on Saturday morning when staff reported to work and found the post office ransacked. The iron grills of a window in the rear of the post office had been cut open and burglars broke open the safe, stealing cash of about Rs 1.09 lakh. Acting on a police complaint, a Valpoi police team went to the site and conducted investigations. A police dog squad was also pressed into service. Residents have been critical of the local and condition of the Valpoi post office. They claimed that the post office is located in an isolated area and close to a forest, making it an easy target for burglars.
