Konkani novelist Joe Meny no more, DKA pays tribute

The noted Konkani novelist and tiatrist Jose Menino Do Rosario Furtado, popularly known as Joe Meny Furtado passed away at the age of 70. Dalgado Konknni Akademi (DKA) has paid tribute to the late tiatrist. DKA president Vincy Quadros conveyed condolences to the family of the deceased saying, “The loss of Furtado is irreversible. By his death DKA has lost a staunch supporter and well wisher of Konkani language.” Hailing from Sarzora, Salcete, Joe took to writing literature at the age of 18 and wrote short stories, poetries, essays and tiatrs. His popular tiatrs are, ‘Dilam Tea Mapan ghe’, ‘Yetolo Devchar Gomtolo Sonvsar’, ‘Ghorabeachem Nisonntton’, ‘Ixttagot’, ‘Kantte and Lharam’.  Besides this, he has also written non-stop dramas like ‘Aili Fur Mumrant Pur’, ‘Beiman’, ‘Chuk’, ‘Fuddar’, ‘Herodiana’, ‘Jesus Mhaka Bhogos’, ‘Painnem’, ‘Rukh’ and ‘Tuka Lagun’.  His famous novels are ‘Quenela’, ‘Soirann’, ‘Uzvadd’, ‘Vanz’, ‘Wilma’, ‘Xist’, ‘Yameena’,  ‘Zoit’, ‘Argam ani Bim Toxem Bhat’.  His novel ‘Zoit’ won the literary award by Konknni Bhasha Mandal in the year 1980. Likewise ‘International Year of the Child Award’ Goa Committee bestowed upon him for his non-stop tiatr ‘Aili Fur Mumrant Pur’.  Furtado was felicitated by Dalgado Konknni Akademi by presenting him ‘Dalgado Sahityik Puroskar 2012.’
