Murgaon Education Society in a small and masked gathering, commemorated the birth centenary of its founder President and philanthropist, Vasantrao Subrai Joshi, fondly known as ‘Anna’, in the college premises. A true visionary and trail blazer ‘Anna’ set up the first Commerce College – MES. College of Arts & Commerce in South Goa, 50 years ago. Murgaon Education Society completes its golden jubilee in August 2021. The contribution of Vasantrao Joshi is immense in the field of education.
The staff of MES College of Arts & Commerce and the Higher Secondary Section came together to commemorate the birth centenary of its founder President who was an eminent entrepreneur, social worker and philanthropist. Speaking on the occasion, the officiating Principal Dr Meenakshi Bawa welcomed the gathering and highlighted ‘Anna’s’ contribution to education while Principal of MES Higher Secondary School, Vishwanath Swar speaking on this occassion said that late Anna was a cultured, social and kind-hearted person. He created history in South goa by establishing the first commerce college in South Goa in the year 1972 in his own auto service building. Manager of MES HSS, Nelly Rodrigues, also spoke of the life and achievements of Joshi. Members of the family, management and teaching and non-teaching staff were present on the occasion. The meeting was streamed live for the benefit of those who could not attend the same due to the ongoing pandemic.
