Thomas Stephens Konknni Kendr at Porvorim will organise two online talks on Konkani literature of the diaspora via Zoom meeting on November 28 and November 30 at 7 pm.

“There is a rich past and present history of our Konkani people who moved to other states to skip from the traumas of the Inquisition in Goa,” says TSKK Director Fr Jose Silveira SJ.

“When they moved from Goa to neighbouring states, they carried along with them rich traditions and customs of Goa as they were an integral part of their lives. These brought them joy and solace and added meaning to their daily life. It is interesting to dig into the history of the past traditions which are still alive to some extent with our very own people of Goa, now in diaspora. These Konkani speaking people have preserved their literature for decades,” Fr Silveira added.

On November 28 at 7 pm, Valley Quadros, a well-known figure of Konkani literature in Karnataka, will speak on the Konkani poems written in Kannada script in Karanataka, highlighting the cultural richness visible in their literature. On November 30 at 7 pm, Usha U Rane, from Karwar, another noted personality in the field of Karwar literature, will speak on their poetries. She will touch upon the various aspects of their traditions and culture featured in their literature. “After that, the focus will be on Cochin and Mumbai literature. We will venture into their poetries and try to feel the common thread interwoven in their literature too,” said Fr Silveira.

Viewers are requested to use the following Zoom details (ID: 94739314350 and Passcode: tskk) to gain access to the online talks.
