Assuring that Goa would not be turned into a coal hub, Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho said the three linear projects were important to generate local employment, enhance power supply and improvise infrastructure in the State.

"People will never oppose the three linear projects if they get proper information and many are linking coal to these projects,” Godinho told reporters.

“The opposition will end when the people are convinced that this has no link to coal. MPT is a natural port and has to be fully utilised with cargo movement till the hinterland and this will generate employment and boost economic activity and stop Goans going abroad for better job opportunities.”

Godinho added that power lines were needed to enhance power supply in the State.

"Increased power demand is the indicator of growth and Goa, which is developing at a fast pace, cannot survive with power fluctuations and power cuts of several hours like in other states.”

“We must move forward, support development and use anti-pollution measures wherever required," said Godinho.
