The spike in fresh cases of people testing positive for Covid-19 continued in the State on Thursday as officials reported two more deaths and 582 new cases even as an order was issued banning large gatherings including social, religious, sports, entertainment, educational and cultural.

In Margao, the number of active cases neared the 350 mark. Porvorim has 326 and Panaji, Ponda and Candolim all have over 200 active cases.

The North Goa Collector on Thursday evening issued an order banning large gatherings including social, religious, sports, entertainment, educational and cultural.

The order of the collector said indoor venues with capacity of up to 100 can be used for events only to the extent of 50 per-cent capacity.

For bigger venues, the maximum count of the congregation can be up to 50 per-cent of capacity and in any case up to a maximum of 100 whatever the size of the hall, the Collector's order said.

For open air venues, again only 50 percent of the capacity can be filled and in no circumstances more than 200 will be permitted.

The Collector's order warned that contravention of the order will invite prosecution and attract section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
