CM accused of having no plan of action to control drug trade

Goa government has once again found itself on the receiving end as yet another drug overdose incident has rocked the State.
Referring to the case of a female tourist currently in a private hospital battling for her life due to a drug overdose, Goa Forward Party (GFP) President Vijai Sardesai said that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant cannot excuse himself from accepting responsibility for failing to control the rampant distribution and sale of drugs in Goa. Sardesai also demanded CM’s resignation over the failure to curb the menace.
“Today the Sawant government has prioritised event management over everything else in the state. The government appears to have an unofficial policy to organise one of two events every month which cost the exchequer around 2.5 Crore or more; while he and his supporters are busy entertaining themselves with these decadent extravaganzas, drugs are sold freely across the state,” he said.
Sardesai applauded the efforts of Hyderabad police to crack a whip on the drug menace in Goa while hinting at ineffectiveness by Goa police. “Goans felt some respite after the crackdown of the drug trade in the State by Hyderabad police, but unfortunately it appears that the trade is back in full swing once again,” the former minister alleged.
Sardesai further accused the CM of having no plan of action to control the drug trade while also referring to a confidential letter, released by The Goan regarding the government’s failure to act against some beachside nightclubs playing loud music. “A confidential letter is sent to the government listing the bars and pubs that play loud music and also those which are hubs of the drug trade, the government has not taken any action,” Sardesai added and demanded that CM Sawant either announce his action plan to tackle Goa's drug trade or resign and hand over the reins to someone who is capable of ending the sale of drugs in Goa.
