Power Minister Sudin Dhavalikar has hit back at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) which was critical of his U-turn on the controversial Tamnar power project, one of the three linear projects proposed in the sensitive Mollem national park areas.

Dhavalikar, who had staunchly opposed the project when he was in the Opposition, argued that Goa needs electricity and the Tamnar project was necessary.

“We are short of 200 MW electricity in Goa and we need the Tamnar Power Project. AAP just makes statements without information,” Dhavalikar said.

He further said that he never opposed Tamnar project and that he only wanted the alignment changed.

“AAP makes one thing in Delhi and another in Punjab; they must check their administration before criticising me,” Dhavalikar added.

Defending his stand on the Tamnar project, Dhavalikar further said that it is important for Goa as it will add 1,200 MW to the power-deficit State.

The Power Minister lamented that Goa doesn’t have a single power generation plant, adding that to overcome shortage, the government would formulate a solar policy within a month and introduce it soon.
