Niz Goenkar Revolution Front has strongly objected to the utilisation of Rs 23 crore 14th Finance Commission funds to construct three key projects in Vasco - Vasco fish market, MMC building renovation and Baina Power house.

The Front in a letter to the Director of Municipal Administration (DMA), Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chief Officer and Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) has called for reverting the funds back from GSUDA and utilise the same for developmental works in all wards.

Speaking to the media, NGRF spokesperson Chandrashekar Vasta said that there were many pending development works in all the 25 wards of the municipality.

“The council will be dissolved soon and an administrator is likely to be appointed to carry out the pending works in all the wards in the absence of a caretaker chairperson. It was the decision of the MMC to transfer the 14th Finance Commission funds to GSUDA for carrying out works on three major projects in Mormugao taluka, for which we strongly object because there is a lot of pending development works across all wards and the Rs 23 crore funds can be used for these works,” said Vasta.

“We have requested to keep the three key development works pending because the municipal funds will be wrongly used in the name of these projects which is wrong because the funds were passed exclusively for development in municipal wards. The key projects can be taken up by GSUDA under government funds and the funds transferred to GSUDA must be taken back immediately and utilised for municipal development works under the administrator,” said NGRF spokesperson Vasta.
