Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a word of praise for Goa when he said it has come up with a new development 'blue print' with a tourism master plan, even as he made mention of big ticket investments made in the State, including the Rs 3,000 crore Mopa airport.
The prime minister was addressing virtually the 'Rojgar Mela' event held at the Raj Bhavan on Thursday morning.
Congratulating those who had gained government employment, Modi said: “Now, you have an important 25 years of your life. You have to work for the development of Goa and also India. You have to work towards achieving the dream of a new India by 2047.”
The prime minister also said that he was told more recruitment in other department will also be held in the months to come even as he mentioned that Centre too has commenced large-scale recruitment processes in mission mode.
“The central government is also recruiting thousands of youth through the Rogjar Mela. I am happy that wherever there are BJP governments, wherever there is double-engine government, such melas are organised by the State governments,” the prime minister said.
On Mopa airport, Modi said it will be commissioned "soon" and pointed out that Goans had also got employment during its construction.
Thousands of crores have been invested in Goa by the Central government over the last eight years, Modi said, adding that the connectivity and infrastructure projects currently in progress were also providing employment to Goan youth.
The Prime Minister also mentioned in his address the pet project of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant -- ‘Swayampoorna Goa’ -- an initiative which he claimed was aiding the creation of basic amenities and strengthening infrastructure.
Sawant and his Cabinet colleagues were also present at the venue where 1,250 Goans who had successfully gone through recruitment processes conducted by multiple government departments over the last one year were given 'joining letters'.
On the tourism master plan, the prime minister said it will attract investment in the sector and generate employment.
The Centre, he said, was also working on creating jobs in the traditional farming sector, including food processing, coconut farming, jute and spices sectors by linking the activities to self help groups.
