Emphasizing that the State government was doing everything within its power in providing employment opportunities to Goans, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said recruitment in government and private sector will begin from January next year.

The CM also said that the State government will request the Reserve Bank of India to extend the moratorium on loans for another three months to reach out to the tourist taxi-drivers and rent-a-cab owners.

“While working to provide job opportunities we also need to see the financial health of the State. The State finances took a plunge due to the pandemic and is slowly improving. We won’t be able to provide jobs till the end of December this year but from the beginning of the next year people will get job opportunities in government and private sector,” Sawant said.

The chief minister was addressing a news conference in the presence of BJP President Sadanand Tanavde and his other colleagues at the end of the day’s executive members meeting held in Mapusa.

Speaking further, Sawant said despite strain on funds due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the government has not fallen back in providing financial support for the social welfare schemes and subsidies to various sectors in the State.

On the educational front, he said the government will start implementing the new education policy from 2021.

“The new education policy states that the medium of education should be in mother tongue. We do not oppose it. Primary education should be in mother tongue,” Sawant said.

Referring to the outbursts from his party’s Aldona MLA on the functioning of the IDC, the chief minister said he will sit down with the MLA and the industries minister to thrash out the issue.

“Just like there are differences among family members there may be some confusion among the party colleagues. We will sort it out,” he said.
