Socorro, Saligao, Pilerne, Guirim declare shutdown

Duration, intensity of lockdowns varies among panchayats

A growing number of panchayats are imposing some form of lockdown in their villages to curb the spread of Covid and the panchayats of Socorro, Saligao, Pilerne and Guirim panchayats are the latest to do so.

While some panchayats are enforcing a strict lockdown, other panchayats are imposing a partial lockdown and the duration of the lockdown have also varied among the panchayats.


SOCORRO

The Socorro panchayat has issued a public notice announcing a partial 6-day lockdown from Tuesday to May 9.

Shops dealing in essential commodities like groceries, vegetables, fruit dairy products, hardware, supermarkets, meat products, fish, pet food shops and other essentials are allowed to remain open and operate from 7 am to 1 pm.

However, shops like hair cutting salons and parlours, spa, gymnasiums, garment shops, dry fruits and other shops not engaged in essential services are to remain closed.

Pubs, bars, restaurants, all kiosks, public places like garden, parks, swimming pools and sports grounds will also remain closed.

In the public notice, the Socorro panchayat stated that these restrictions have been introduced to break the chain of coronavirus.

The panchayat has threatened to initiate strict action, including sealing of shops and business establishments, against those found violating the lockdown.


SALIGAO

The Saligao panchayat has also appealed to shopkeepers and business establishments to close down their operations after 12 noon.

Banks and pharmacies are allowed to function as per their usual timing by following Covid protocols.

However, the panchayat has not mentioned the period for these restricted measures on shopkeepers and business establishments.

When contacted, Saligao sarpanch Lafira Gomes said they have verbally informed the shopkeepers that the restrictive measures will be applicable till May 9.



PILERNE-MARRA

The Pilerne-Marra Panchayat has imposed a seven-day lockdown from Tuesday till May 10, in view of rising Covid cases in the village.

In a public notice, the panchayat has stated that all business establishments except pharmacies and banks in the village will be operative from 6 am to 12 noon.

All the restaurants and hotels are allowed to operate for take away/home delivery till 9 pm only. Salons, beauty parlours and spas will remain closed.

The panchayat has also stated that all Covid patients should remain isolated for 17 days.

The panchayat has warned of strict action, including revocation of license, against those found violating the instructions.



GUIRIM

The Guirim panchayat has decided to impose a nine-day lockdown in the village from Tuesday to May 12.

Public movement within the village has been permitted from 6 am to 11 am with wearing of masks and maintaining social distancing.
