Several tourists and commuters in the State were stranded when taxi drivers on Thursday began their indefinite strike demanding

withdrawal of the services of app-based taxis operating in the State.

On Thursday large number of taxi operators gathered at Azad Maidan. The operators have resolved to continue their agitation till government pays heed to their demands.

Setting a deadline to scrap the GoaMiles app-based taxi service within two days, Association leader Bappa Korgaonkar warned that the government will be held responsible for any law and order situation.

"The agitation will be intensified in the coming days. The government will be totally responsible if any law and order situation arises as a result of our agitation”, Korgaonkar said.

Warning the government that their agitation would be intensified if their demand is not met, he urged the authorities to immediately scrap cab aggregators like GoaMiles and Apna Bhada.

"We had staged peaceful dharnas in the past to urge the government to withdraw these services. But that has not worked... we are now forced to go on strike from today (Thursday)," Korgaonkar said.

Attacking Deputy Chief Minister Babu Ajgaonkar for his irresponsible comments on overcharging and looting tourists, other leaders said Ajgaonkar’s statement is totally wrong.
