MARGAO
Benaulim MLA Churchil Alemao told Union Minister for Tourism G Kishan Reddy that the consultant appointed to execute work on tourist amenities at the world-famous Colva beach had never taken him into confidence.

He pointed out that the consultant tried to develop the children’s park even without felling the coconut trees. “This is not the way to execute development when there is a local MLA and the panchayat body in place. Such things should not happen in the future,” he added. Saying that Colva is an iconic beach, Churchill requested the authorities to rehabilitate the local kiosk owners, who have been eking out a living on their small-time business activity. Churchill stressed the need to bring rich and wealthy tourists to Goa, even as he batted for a golf course and marinas to attract high-spending tourists. He made a strong case with the Tourism Minister to reduce the pay toilet fees, saying visitors may not avail of the facility and answer nature’s call in the open, defeating the purpose of putting the sanitation facility in place.
