Goa Congress president Girish Chodankar on Thursday accused Chief Minister Pramod Sawant of trying to illegally gain control over the Sanquelim Municipal Council with an eye on the upcoming state assembly polls.
Chodankar also said that the ruling panel in the Council, which is backed by the Congress, is harassed using government machinery, which is trying to browbeat them into submission, so that Sawant can benefit from the regime change during the assembly polls.
The Congress president said that the government was trying to overthrow the ruling panel in the council on the basis of private complaints filed related to two ruling councillors Raya Parsekar and Rajesh Sawal.
The Congress president also said that the Bombay High Court had provided the two petitioners relief from the harassment by the Sawant-led administration for now.
