SIT arrests 3 on charges of making fake sale deed

Trio carried out mutation of 950 sqm plot in Anjuna

The Special Investigation Team on Tuesday arrested three persons, including two senior citizens, on charges of preparing a fake sale deed of 1951 in their name in connection with a 950 sq mtr area of property in Anjuna.

The accused, Mariano Teles Gonsalves (87) and Palmira Gonsalves (76) from Cuncolim and Rony Rodrigues from Marna-Siolim, were later released by the Mapusa JMFC on a personal bond of Rs 15,000 each.

The original owner of the property, who resides in Mumbai, had filed a complaint before the SIT, while Xavier Rosario Pereira from the Mamletdar’s office had also filed a complaint in the matter.

Acting on the complaint, police registered an offence against Branca Cassaina Diniz, Paulina Juliana Diniz @ Palmarina Gonsalves, Mariano Antonio Teles Gonsalves and Royson Rodrigues under Sections 465, 466, 467, 468, 471, 419, 420 r/w 34 IPC.

It is alleged that accused had prepared a fake sale deed of the year 1951 and succession deed dated August 6, 2021 and presented the said forged documents before the Mamlatdar of Bardez and succeeded in carrying out mutation process in respect of a plot in Anjuna.

After the formation of SIT, this is the first time that a senior citizen couple has been arrested in the case.

When the accused, Mariano Gonsalves, was taken for medical checkup, he claimed to have been unwell and was admitted in GMC for treatment.

Police Inspector Nitin Halarnkar is investigating the case under the guidance of SIT SP Nidhin Valsan.

There are, so far, 100 land grab cases under investigation and FIRs have been registered in around 35 cases. 

The SIT has, so far, arrested 12 persons including two women in these land grab cases. Twenty-eight cases have been transferred from other divisions and the Crime Branch has registered seven cases.
