The Panaji police have arrested a 35-year-old man for allegedly breaking into a tourist vehicle and fleeing away with valuables. The police said that Wasim Sayed was arrested from his residence in Margao where the police personnel recovered stolen valuables.
The accused was identified through CCTV footage provided by Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited which has installed security cameras across major areas.
According to the complaint filed by a Kolhapur couple, an unknown person(s) smashed the rear glass window of his car bearing registration number MH-14-DN-5261 and stole two mobile phones, one mangalsutra, Rs 900 cash and some clothes.
The total loss is estimated at Rs 55,000. The Panaji police said that the man was identified through the security camera footage and his whereabouts were traced to Margao. The police raided his apartment and seized stolen articles besides a two-wheeler used for committing the crime, for investigation.
