Ajgaonkar drums up support for ‘Vibrant Margao’

MARGAO
As the BJP-backed candidates under the banner of Vibrant Margao filed their papers on Friday for the Margao Municipal polls, with the ruling party making a determined bid to storm the civic body, Deputy Chief Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar made a fervent plea to Madgavkars and Fatordekars to give the party a mandate to give a corruption-free and development-centric council for the next five years.

That the Deputy Chief Minister made his presence felt outside the office of the Margao Returning Officer on Friday morning indicates that the ruling dispensation is going all out to boost the morale of the contesting candidates in the fray on the Vibrant Margao banner.

An optimistic Ajgaonkar exuded confidence that the people of Margao and Fatorda will give a clear mandate for Vibrant Margao, promising that the people will see a big change in the Margao civic body in the next five years. “People of Margao and Fatorda want a corruption free civic body. When you have good people in the civic body, the city will get good projects. Since the BJP is ruling at the Centre and the State, the people of Margao and Fatorda will benefit immensely if the ruling party panel is given a mandate in the civic polls,” he said.

Making an appeal to the people not to fall prey to false propaganda from the opposition, Ajgaonkar said these people took up the work of only gutters and roads and ignored the burning issues facing the commercial capital. “These people have never given a thought for the city’s development. When the MMC is giving huge revenue to the government, there’s a need to stand for the civic body to stand on its own legs by mopping up revenue,” he said.
