MARGAO
Senior Congress leaders, Leader of the Opposition Digambar Kamat and South Gao MP Francisco Sardinha have welcomed the decision of Health Minister Vishwajit Rane demanding shifting of the IIT project from Melauli village.

Kamat said Vishwajit Rane has taken the right decision, reminding that his government had bowed down to the people by scrapping the controversial SEZ in the state. “I am of the firm opinion that what is required by the people should happen. If you see the situation in Melauli, the people were clear in their resolve against the IIT and were in no mood to welcome the project,” Kamat said.

The duo spoke to the media on the sidelines of the programme held at the South Goa Collectorate building to distribute three-wheelers to the disabled persons under the MPLAD scheme of the South Goa MP.

South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha said the farmers and villagers from Melauli were consistent in their opposition to the IIT project. “I compliment the people for their resolve in opposing the project,” he said, hoping that the government would open its eyes and scrap the project.

Referring to the promise handed out by the government to the sugarcane farmers, Sardinha only hoped that the government honours the same. He once again made a fervent plea to the government not to punish the people opposing the controversial projects when the state is celebrating the 60th anniversary of Goa’s liberation.

Around persons were handed over three-wheelers by the South Goa MP and Leader of Opposition in the presence of South Goa District Collector, Ajit Roy, under the MPLAD scheme.

In his address, Sardinha said the vehicles will help the six disabled persons to become independent. He said eight more three-wheelers will be distributed to the disabled next week.
