PANAJI
Karnataka has formally sought allocation of land to set up a ‘Kannad Bhavan’ here in Goa.

Basavaraj Bommai, the Chief Minister of the neighbouring State with which Goa has a running feud over the former’s alleged attempts to divert waters of the Mhadei River has written to his Goa counterpart Pramod Sawant making the demand.

Bommai has asked Sawant to allot one to two acres of land, saying the Kannad Bhavan in Goa will be a hub to promote language, art and culture of Kannadigas in Goa.

The Karnataka chief minister also claimed in his letter to Sawant that his State has provided Rs 3-crore to set up Konkani Bhavan in Mangaluru, suggesting a quid-pro-quo gesture for a Kannada Bhavan in Goa.

In his last budget, Bommai had allocated a Rs 10-crore grant to set up a Kannad Bhavan in Goa.
