The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Wednesday said the alleged midnight meeting of the Congress MLA and the BJP State observer has put the credibility of the Congress at stake particularly as the elections to the State is due.
The NCP General Secretary Sanjay Barde said it was wrong for GPCC President Girish Chodankar to ask Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginald to meet a strategist so late in the night.
“If at all the Curtorim MLA went to meet a strategist what sort of strategy is being discussed so late in the night? The Congress which could have handled the entire incident in a better way had to huff and puff its way to come out of the embarrassing situation. Reginald is a good person but obviously has been dragged into the controversy by some leaders,” Barde said.
The NCP general secretary was addressing the media along with other leaders in Mapusa.
Continuing, Barde said the whole incident exposed the Congress party and it appears that the Congress and the BJP are birds of the same feathers.
“The Congress leaders do not take up issues of significance and at times have fared very poorly in countering the BJP in the State,” he said.
The NCP General Secretary also trained his guns on former Mapusa municipal council chairperson and Congress leader Sudhir Kandolkar for failing to develop the Mapusa town.
He said for the last 20 years Sudhir Kandolkar was in the Mapusa Municipal Council as a councilor and also as the chairperson under the tutelage of former deputy CM late Francis D’Souza but failed to bring about any development in Mapusa.
“When Kandolkar says no development has happened in Mapusa for the last 25 years, he admits that he could not do anything for Mapusa. Apart from being the chairperson he was also the vice-chairman of GSUDA but failed to utilise his position for the good of the town,” he said.
