Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat has said the contribution of former Congress President and MP, late Adv Shantaram Naik, to Goa and Congress party was immense and added Naik will keep inspiring the generations to come.
Speaking at a function organized to commemorate the 75th birth anniversary of the late leader, Kamat said the former MP had always worked in the interest of Goa and used every opportunity to raise concerns faced by Goans. “He strived to protect identity of Goa. I will always remain indebted to Naik who stood by me during my difficult times in politics. He was the one who extended moral support to me when my opponents were all out to disturb me with vindictive politics,” Kamat added.
GPCC President Girish Chodankar said that Naik was a loyal and dedicated Congressman. “Congress has launched a programme Niz Congressman’ to reconnect with veteran Congress loyalists. Late Shantaram Naik’s loyalty will be an inspiration to build Congress,” Girish added.
GPCC Vice President Altinho Gomes said that Naik will be remembered for his simplicity and honesty. He had a dream of celebrating his 75th birthday, unfortunately, we are gathered to celebrate it as anniversary.
GPCC Vice President Vithoba Dessai, Spokesperson Vithu Morajkar, former councillor Avinash Shirodkar, Youth Congress General Secretary Glen Cabral, Congress leader Sidhanath Buyao and others were present on the occasion.
The later leader’s wife Beena Naik and son Archit thanked the Congress functionaries for attending the commemorative function.
Meanwhile, the Fatorda Block Congress Committee remembered the former MP, saying Naik was a staunch Congressman who remained committed to his ideology and loyal to the Indian National Congress till his last breath.
Fatorda block in-charge Dr Ashish Kamat requested all Congress workers and leaders to follow in Naik’s footsteps and build the party from scratch.
